The series is named for Winifred Edgerton Merrill, the first American woman to earn a PhD in mathematics and the first woman to receive a degree from Columbia, in 1886.

Valerie Hsieh opened the Spring 2025 program with “Probing graphene heterostructures with atomic force microscopy techniques.”
