Raquel is honored to join the Columbia University faculty of Physics starting January 2022. Check here for open positions in the newly formed group.
Raquel talked about the structural topology of bismuth at ES21 which took place at Flatiron Institute's CCQ. Recording here.
We worked with Biao Lian and collaborators to show that inversion-symmetric disorder leaves an unavoidable intermediate metallic phase between axion and trivial insulators. The work is published in Physical Review Letters.
We worked with Eslam Khalaf and collaborators to define topological obstructions that appear only once a symmetric boundary is introduced, producing protected surface states or fractional corner charge without a bulk periodic-boundary obstruction. The work is published in Physical Review Research.
We wrote an invited commentary with Ady Stern for Journal Club for Condensed Matter Physics.
Raquel Queiroz presented the topology of stacking faults and partial lattice defects in the RQMP research seminar in Quebec. Watch the recorded talk.
We worked with Roni Ilan and collaborators to show how pseudomagnetic fields generate distinctive Landau-level and optical-conductivity signatures of overtilted type-II Weyl cones. The work is published in Journal of Physics: Condensed Matter.
We worked with Fakher Assaad and collaborators to test whether interactions can adiabatically connect free-fermion topological phases whose classification is reduced by correlations. Quantum Monte Carlo instead finds symmetry breaking or a first-order transition for the studied interaction. The work is published in Physical Review Research.
We worked with Shahal Ilani's group, together with Erez Berg, Yuval Oreg, Felix von Oppen, and Ady Stern, to reveal a cascade of phase transitions and Dirac revivals in magic-angle graphene. The work is published in Nature; read the ScienceDaily report.
Raquel was delighted to give an invited talk in the international workshop "Recent Developments on Multipole Moments in Quantum Systems" organized by Watanabe & Cho via Zoom. A remarkable list of speakers and participants and lively discussions - even in this new format!
We worked with Sebastian Huber's group and Andrei Bernevig to achieve the first experimental realization of fragile topology in an acoustic metamaterial. The work is published in Science; read the Phys.org report.
We worked with Leslie Schoop and collaborators to distinguish topological drumhead states from trivial floating surface bands in ZrSiTe and explain their hybridization through the Z2 modular arithmetic of nodal-line Berry phases. The work is published in Physical Review X.
